Once you get into exercising on pilates reformers, there really is no going back. It’s a workout, massage, and therapy session in one (I mean I feel fantastic after stepping off of a pilates reformer machine). I happily owned a reformer pilates machine for many years until I moved to a much smaller apartment and sadly had to sell my pilates reformer…I’m still not really over this.
Luckily, there are great alternatives to having a 10 foot pilates reformer machine taking up space in your home! The pilates springboard and the pilates tower on the go are both great space saving options for those of you who are addicted (like myself) to reformers pilates!!
Pilates Reformers Versus Pilates Springboard/Tower on The Go
Which is the best??
1. Pilates Reformers
Pilates Reformers are certainly the most versatile piece of equipment you can have in your home gym. The question really boils down to space and money. If you don’t have the space then move on below to my other space saving recommendations. If you don’t necessarily have the money for a good machine right now, I recommend reading my article about How To Find A Quality Cheap Pilates Reformer (Top Brands).
My first time on the pilates springboard I was hooked. It’s almost like the reformer but attached to the wall. You can do all sorts of plies and squats while standing up…and my favorite running and jumping with the springs acting as resistance (check out this video on youtube for an example).
The Pilates Springboard is a beautiful wooden wall that would blend in nicely to any small interior. It actually goes with my furniture so that’s a plus! Just be very mindful when installing this to the wall: you don’t want it falling on you during your 100’s!!
3. Balanced Body Tower On the Go Pilates WITH Springs
The Balanced Body Tower on The Go comes either with springs or slastix…go with the springs to create that reform pilates feel in your home. The slastix just don’t cut it.
This piece of equipment is great because you can pack it away in your suitcase and take it travelling with you. Plus you don’t have to leave it out all day, which is really great if you have a super small city space. It can be a great addition to your home pilates gym as it does pretty much everything the springboard does. Differences between the two include: the board is more stable with the resistance and 2. the board can be easily used with a fixed bar…you cannot do that with the tower on the go.
The price point is just right at $145 on Amazon. So for those of you on a real budget, I recommend starting here with the Tower On The Go.
